Vancouver poetry house presents feature poet, Winona Linn.

Winona Linn is a poet, performer, teacher and spoken word artist. Although originally from Kingston, Ontario, Linn made a name for herself in the thriving poetry community of Halifax, Nova Scotia while attending the University of King’s College. In only her second year at school, she slammed for and won a spot on the two-time champion Hali Slam team and competed on a national level at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word.

Governmental ideals and politics aside, it is not uncommon for Linn’s poetry to draw on personal experiences, looking to family and her childhood as sources of inspiration. Her dynamic personality is reflected in her performance, as she frequently has her audience in a fit of laughter one moment with smart wordplay and comedy and close to tears the next as she quietly delivers solemn confessions. Linn has performed her poetry in numerous venues across Canada, Europe, and the United States, winning slams and featuring at a variety of events.

The 8 poets competing tonight will be
(in no particular order):
Sonder
Andrew Warner
Brandon Zhu
Emily Kelsall
Everett Montinola
Julia Pileggi
Coral More
Martina Danserau

There will be two 3 minute rounds and all poets will compete in BOTH rounds.

As always, there will be an open mic and two-round poetry slam, (3 min) where poets accumulate points to qualify for the Van Slam team.

Cafe Deux Soleils and the Van Slam strive to be a trans friendly place and a hate speech free zone. Help us with that. We also acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded First Nations Territory.

Also, be kind to our VOLUNTEER door staff. They have to follow BC Liquor Board Rules and once we are sold out we can’t let anyone in unless someone leaves. You cannot save seats for people in line. Let them know if you are leaving. Also no ATM at the door, it’s cash ONLY.

Get there early if you want a seat or want to slam. Before 7pm
